TikTok is relying on livestreams to drive sales this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Here's what you need to know:
- TikTok is encouraging brands and creators to go live as much as possible for two hour long sessions on average. TikTok will even be hosting "super livestreams" with celebrities.
- It's a bold move for TikTok to lean into the space since Meta abandoned its live shopping efforts in 2022, and Amazon hasn't cracked the channel yet.
- TikTok owner ByteDacne has seen success in live shopping in China with sites like Douyin earning more than $200 billion last year through live shopping.
- Canvas Beauty, which sells body glaze, is an early success story of livestream shopping on TikTok Shop in the U.S. In June, Canvas Beauty CEO Stormi Steele became the first TikToker in the U.S. to earn $1 million in sales on live shopping.
