What's going on with the TikTok ban?

TikTok is at a critical juncture in the U.S. as it reaches the halfway point of its 75-day extension before a potential ban. Here's what you need to know:

  • While uncertainty looms, the platform continues to operate as usual and the company is confident that it won’t be leaving the U.S. anytime soon. TikTok even has 2,148 open vacancies for roles across the U.S.
  • The app recently launched automotive ads allowing advertisers to target users based on their specific vehicle interests.
  • Advertising remains strong on TikTok, as video ad revenue has increased from around $52.2 million in April 2024 to more than $207.9 million by January 2025 which is nearly a 300% increase over 10 months.
  • Downloads spiked after the app was reinstated in U.S. app stores, but there have been slight declines in daily active users and app traffic.
  • Even if TikTok U.S. is banned, ByteDance's revenue largely comes from its Chinese products, minimizing the impact.
