TikTok brands want to build trust

TikTok viral brands are seeking out brick-and-mortar retail to gain more credibility and prepare for a potential TikTok ban in the U.S. Here's what you need to know:

  • The athleisure brand Halara saw success showing off its affordable and trendy options on TikTok. The brand currently has over 660K followers on the platform.
  • Last month Halara unveiled their first pop-up store location in NYC. This is one of four pop-up locations slated to open in the U.S. by the end of the year.
  • TikTok is facing a ban in the U.S. if the platform doesn't divest from its China-based owner ByteDance.
  • Physical retail is a chance for Halara to grow its fan base beyond TikTok as well as gain more trust as some potential customers are hesitant to buy from the "social media brand."
  • Other TikTok-focused brands have also taken the pop-up approach to gain credibility and visibility beyond TikTok. Cider opened its first pop-up last fall in NYC, Edikted opened its third store location at the Mall of America, and Collars & Co opened up three locations this year.
