TikTok Shop is shifting away from its bargain-bin image as average prices rise across major categories. Here’s what you need to know:
Charm’s analysis shows major price increases across categories, including footwear rising 103% year over year from $14.06 to $28.64, while sports and outdoor goods, luggage and bags, and fashion accessories climbed 54%, 43% and 42% respectively.
Established brands like Samsung, Disney, and QVC have joined TikTok Shop, a shift Charm CEO Alex Nisenzon says is contributing to higher prices as the platform moves beyond cheaper emerging brands.
Trump-era tariffs, including a 145% duty on most Chinese imports and a 10% universal tariff, drove sharp increases, such as a 70% year-over-year spike in the average unit price of fashion accessories and bags, as well as an over 60% increase in the average unit price for women’s apparel.
Brands like KimChi Chic Beauty, Pure Daily Care, Crocs, and Pop Mart have raised prices to offset tariffs, with examples including a 30% increase on Pure Daily Care’s NuDerma Wand and selective price hikes at Crocs and KimChi Chic.
TikTok Shop’s marketplace has grown rapidly, as there has been a 95% year-over-year increase in the number of brands making at least $30 million in annual revenue joining the platform. Big-brand sales have risen 84% year-over-year, helping the platform reach a scale comparable to eBay.
There were $570 million in sales on TikTok Shop from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday (the "Cyber 5")!
